I decided it would be fun to put together a quick style guide for Memorial Day Weekend! A lot of these outfits are from Lilly Pulitzer, because I really do wear Lilly things quite often, but I’ve also included things from Draper James, J. Crew Factory, and H&M. They are beautiful, comfortable, and darling! A lot of the outfits can be mixed and matched, for multiple looks. Also, I’m including links for style steals, get a similar look for less. I’m going to include a few pairs of shoes, too. So let’s get started!
Striped Flutter Sleeve Tee from Draper James and Collette Skort from Lilly Pulitzer
I own this precious tee shirt and it’s been wonderful all year long! The fabric is thicker than a normal tee shirt, so it’s very forgiving after you’ve eaten way too much barbecue. The flutter sleeves are a small yet fun detail. And it’s on sale right now! The Collette Skort is one of my favorite things from Lilly Pulitzer. It’s easy to dress up or down, and it’s perfect if you’re planning on going to a cookout or pool party! Quick side note: if you are doing something messy, be very careful if you choose to wear white. Even though the Collette Skort is machine washable, barbecue sauce is a pain to get out of clothes (I have experienced this first hand).
Essie Top in Sea to Shining Sea and Buttercup shorts from Lilly Pulitzer
Lilly Pulitzer’s Summer Collection just came out recently, and it included the sailboat and fireworks print “Sea to Shining Sea.” It’s so perfect for celebrating such a patriotic holiday! And if I were you, I’d pull this out for the Fourth of July, too! If you’ve read my older posts about Lilly Pulitzer, you’ll know how much I love these shorts. They are scalloped and have just a bit of stretch. I highly recommend getting these shorts, because they go with just about everything. Plus, they will last you a long time (if you take care of them). If you’re spending Memorial Day out on a boat, you need this outfit. Quick side note: you can get matching swimsuits for the whole family in “Sea to Shining Sea!”
You can get a similar outfit from Crown and Ivy. I own both of these and love them. The shirt is downright adorable and super flattering. The shorts are similar to Lilly Pulitzer’s but aren’t as well made. You can put both of these in the washing machine.
Lanette Top and 7” Darcy Knit Shorts in Catch N Keep from Lilly Pulitzer
The fabric on the Lanette Top is soft and comfortable. The flutter sleeves and racer back are a fun way to spice up the top. The Darci Shorts are similar to the Knit Buttercup Shorts that I own, except the inseam is two inches longer. They are breathable and feel like a thick tee shirt. If the shorts stretch out, throw them in the dryer for a few minutes. Quick side notes: Read the directions on any laundry tag if you’re unsure of how to wash something. Many of my things have been ruined by accidentally putting them in the dryer. When in doubt use a delicate cycle with cold water and air dry (or google it.)
Scalloped Cami Top from J. Crew Factory and Chambray Shorts from Draper James
I don’t own this top, but I have heard great things about it from other bloggers. You can wear it by itself, or underneath a sweater. I have tried on the Chambray Shorts in the Draper James Store in Nashville. They were adorable and great for the summer. The bow is so such a sweet detail, and you won’t have to worry about a belt. Quick side note: Size up on the shorts!
J. Crew Factory has a pair of navy tie-waist shorts that are cute, but I don’t know anything about the fit or quality. They also have a pair of scalloped chambray scalloped hem shorts.
Sleeveless Jersey Dress from H&M
So I got a striped dress from the Vineyard Vines for Target Collection, and I fell in love with it. Unfortunately, they are all out of stock on Target’s site, but if you want to get one off of eBay be careful you don’t overpay (I paid $35 for it, and I would maybe go only to $60.) But this Jersey Dress gives me the same vibes. I own one in the blue and white floral print, and I will warn you to size up if you have a fuller bust. H&M’s website has a sizing tool that you can use. Also, wear a pair of bike shorts underneath this dress since it’s on a shorter side. Quick Side Note: This dress is part of their Conscious line.
Juudeth Leather Wedges from Dillard’s
These are the most comfortable wedges that I tried on the other day. I like that they give you an extra four inches, and are easy to walk in. I got them in the color Dark Sierra Tan, which is almost a caramel color. They do have real leather, so I would recommend keeping them away from water. Quick Side Note: I did get blisters the first few times I wore them, but I have worn them in now.
Boat Shoes from Sperry’s
My Sperry’s are six years old, and I still wear them. I can’t remember if my shoes are the Authentic Original or Koi Fish, but I like the ones that are more like tennis shoes than ballet flats. Quick side note: If you tie the laces on Sperry’s in a barrel knot, you never have to worry about them coming undone.
Z/1 Sandals from Chaco
I love my Chaco’s and wear them multiple times a week. I actually wear a child’s size 6 in Chaco’s. I prefer their sandals with a single strap and no toe loop. There are tons of options on their website, and you can design your own! Quick side
Mayari Sandal from Birkenstock
These are my go-to shoe when I run errands. They come in tons of colors, and it’s easy to search for them. They are really comfortable and over time they will mold to the shape of your foot. Quick side
Flap Closure Satchel Handbag from Target
I recently purchased this purse from Target. It’s a cute bag for the summer, and the color is so pretty. I wish there were more compartments inside, but it holds all of my stuff. Also, I really like being able to convert it to a crossbody.
Whimsical Resin Hoop Earrings from Target
These are part of Target’s SUGARFIX by BaubleBar. With three colors to choose from, you’ll be able to find a pair that will go with the outfits I put together. They are light-weight, and just the right size. I don’t like to spend a lot of money on earrings I won’t be able to wear frequently.
Are you doing anything fun for the weekend? I can’t wait to spend some time with our friends, eat some good barbeque, and jump off the diving board. But remember to wear extra sunscreen this weekend!
With Love from the East Coast,
Elaine
With the exception of the last photo, which is mine, all pictures are from the website that they take you to.
